Measurable results

Since 1966, we have worked to close the literacy gap for children by bringing books and reading resources to underserved communities. In the 55+ years since, we’ve had an impact on the lives of over 160 million children, creating generations of “RIF Kids” along the way.

Fourteen people stand together, including members of the team from Reading is Fundamental and Dollar General. Two people hold an oversized check in the center of the group.

We put books into the hands of many children who have limited access to literature outside of school. The excitement on the children's faces when picking out a book and learning they get to KEEP it is priceless! Being a high-poverty school, grant opportunities like this help reduce the equity disparity in access to print at early ages.

Why reading matters

25 million children in the U.S. can’t read proficiently, which prevents them from achieving success in school, participating in all areas of life, and realizing their dreams. Our proven programs and resources help tackle this crisis–but we can't do it without you.

Early literacy is the human rights issue of our time. Every child, regardless of race or economic standing, deserves an equal opportunity to read. Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to aid our littlest learners.
