Rubén Cáceres

Dr. Rubén Cáceres has been a middle school English, Reading, and Gifted teacher in Miami Dade County, an ELL Adjunct Professor for Miami Dade College, and currently teaches eEnglish Educator and Teacher Leader in the District of Columbia. Within these positions, he has served as department chair, school accreditation facilitator, professional development liaison, and is currently a New Teacher Ambassador and New Teacher Mentor for DCPS. To help his students, he has earned a Masters in Reading from Florida International University, the National Board Certification for Professional Teaching Standards, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: Literacy, Language, and Cognition from Barry University. For his successes increasing student achievement, MDCPS and Univision awarded him with the Un Maestro Especial Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Florida Department of Education recognized him as one of the teachers with the highest number of students demonstrating reading and writing improvement in state assessments over the years. His academic interest centers on understanding the conditions that cause bias in our schools. In that spirit, his dissertation: Manifestations of Heteronormative Power in Public School English: a Discourse Analysis aimed to understand the lack of LGBTQ content representation in English classes that operate within equity supportive districts.
