MATERIALS: Empty matchboxes or paper clip boxes (the kind with tiny sliding drawers), plain paper to cover the boxes, scissors, fine-line markers, hold puncher, ribbon.

Collect small matchboxes or paper clip boxes. Remove the drawers and save them for another project. Cover the outsides of the boxes with plain paper. Then decorate the fronts of the boxes with fine-line markers so that they look like miniatures of your favorite books. Include titles, authors names, and tiny cover illustrations. Punch a hole in the top of the books spine and insert a piece of colored ribbon. Tie a bow at the end of a good-size loop and hang the book ornament on the tip of a tree branch. A word of caution: Paper decorations are not safe to use on trees with electric lights. If you plan to light your tree, you might want to string the book ornaments along the mantel instead, or tie them onto a ribbon streamer.
