Children, like all of us, like to have concrete evidence of our achievements. Using your child's interests as an indicator, have your child decide on a shape that he or she likes--an animal, a balloon, a baseball bat, or a running shoe, for example. Each time that your child reads a book independently or aloud with you, have him record the title on a cut-out of the selected shape. As each cut-out is completed, tape it to your child's bedroom door. Once the door is filled with cut-outs of the completed books, reward your child with a treat or a prize.
