Megan Beyer Appointed to Reading Is Fundamental’s Board of Directors
WASHINGTON, December 5, 2008—Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF), the nation's oldest and largest children and families' literacy organization, has appointed Megan Beyer, PBS panelist and Northern Virginia civic leader, to its board of directors.
Beyer also serves as finance chairman of the Virginia Community College System board; she is a board member of Washington's public television station, WETA-25; and is vice chairman of the board of the National Historic Trust's Woodlawn Plantation. With a background in broadcast media, Beyer is a two-time Emmy nominee and a recipient of the Virginia Associated Press Award.
Her lifelong participation in community service includes leadership on various boards and commissions. She served on the Virginia Israel Commission and on the boards of the Virginia Association for the Prevention of Blindness, the Medical Care for Children Partnership, the Associates Board of the Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts, the Richmond Ballet and Theatre Four. Beyer co-chaired with Lynda Johnson Robb, RIF chairman emerita, Every Child by Two—a project to immunize children in Virginia.
Beyer graduated magna cum laude from the University of Richmond, majoring in Journalism. She is a native of Alexandria, Va. She is married to Donald S. Beyer, former Lt. Governor of Virginia.
