Ernestine Walls Benedict Named Reading Is Fundamental's Vice President of Marketing and Communications

WASHINGTON, December 11, 2008—Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF), the nation's oldest and largest children and families' literacy organization, has named Ernestine Walls Benedict vice president of marketing and communications. In this role, Benedict directs all strategic communications and brand management efforts.

Benedict previously served as director of online communications at RIF, where she created and launched Leading to Reading, RIF's award-winning website for young children. She brings more than 10 years' experience in marketing strategy and communications across multiple industries, including nonprofit, arts and culture, and technology.

Prior to joining RIF, Benedict was director of marketing at Proverb, a branding and design consultancy in Boston, where she developed integrated marketing plans for a broad client base. She also served as interim director of marketing at the MasBenedict began her marketing career in Silicon Valley, where she led development, sales, and marketing efforts for web-hosted business applications at Broadband Office (BBO). Prior to BBO, she was a marketing manager at Netscape Communications within the Strategic Planning, iPlanet, and Netscape.com divisions.

Benedict graduated from Temple University with a bachelor's degree in finance. She is a member of the American Marketing Association. She resides in Washington, D.C., with her husband, Stephen.
